Diwali / Deepavali

It is 01:00 in the morning. Sitting in my room and browsing through eBooks, with Ilayaraja's greatest of all times piercing through my ears keeping me awake, I could hear some massive sounds subduing Ilayaraja's feats and hitting my drums.

Wondered ? No wonder, It was Diwali yesterday and people are still firing crackers with full josh. The festival day that everybody would be most cherished about and especially North Indians. It is the day of lights, crackers, sweets and lots of greetings. For most of them this day is a get-to-gather with all their friends and family.Well it was the same to me until last year. But this time it was not the same.

I am in Gurgaon  / New Delhi for an official purpose. In the morning as I woke up realized that this day was Diwali only when I saw my friends Diwali greeting in my mobile. Just then, my memories started brushing up it's diaries for Diwali days in the past.

@Flashback: My mom would be shouting to wake me and my bro. My Dad would be waiting with hot oil with some toppings in it in his hand. Just when we guys wake up, he arrests us down and applies oil to head with a slight massage. Wow, all your body ache flies away. Take bath and now alarm from Mom for the next task. Have to fire atleast one 100 wala cracker in front of the house in the morning. No body moves as our foot would be nailed in front of the TV with some Diwali special programs. So, finally my Dad fires it himself. Then phone calls starts flying across to all friends and relatives wishing them and inviting them home. Its afternoon and time for heavy lunch with some Diwali special home made sweets. Time flies by with loads of programs in any channel you browse through till evening. It's evening and time for crackers starts now. All of us gather at one place, usually at my home and fire crackers for hours till the day fades out completely and darkness take over. With all of these excitements and fun, this day stands in your memory for atleast a week.

@Present: I woke up and there was nothing special but had to get ready early as we have booked for an Hindi movie - Blue the day before. Got out into the city and roamed around some shopping malls (sure not for shopping), had our lunch outside and returned home. Had a nice nap as soon as we were home. woke up, cooked chappati and now just browsing through net.

If I sit back and think if I had missed something. Definitely yes, a golden day of fun for a guy like me. But definitely was not depressed as I at least had a new place to explore and make up the most of my day with friends. But my family back home were really missing me. Because for them it is the usual scenario except my absence which is unusual. Do you think we have anything to do about this? Hmm, some may say YES, it is we who decide our every moment. May be YES, but if you keep saying "This day is mine, this moment is mine. I decide and nobody else". Do you think you would let changes into your life? We have to convince ourselves, take up the changes that comes our way and make the most out of it. Days are not gonna be the same, it would definitely change one day or the other.  May be they (Family) too will get used to it in the years to come.

Ayoo, did I say some message. Sorry, just wrote what I thought.
OK, it's time for sleep. It is Sunday anyways and have nothing important to do. So, hope will have a sound sleep now, if my roomies don't disturb me.
